Alien Adventure

This is what happens when you visit a rest area in Roswell, NM

After we finished visiting Carlsbad Caverns we drove up to Albuquerque to visit my sister and her family.  Our route took us through the town of Roswell, NM.  Ever heard of it? Do aliens and UFO's ring a bell? We decided to stop and see if we could have any close encounters.  Lucky or unlucky for us the town was very crowded because it just happened to be the annual Alien Festival.  Lots of "unique" individuals roaming the streets that day - even a guy dressed up in tin foil to look like an alien - or maybe it actually was an alien?!?!?!?

A Christmas Visitor

Funny thing happened to me yesterday.  I think if I post the email threads, it will tell the story best.

Here is the subject line:

Quick Question

"I cannot remember if anyone is taking Sunshine over Christmas. Ryder has begged me to let him but I wanted to check with you first. If you would like for him to watch our class pet over the Christmas break please let me know. Thanks so much!"

And my foolish reply:

"Sure we can.  Is Sunshine a hamster?  I ask because I had a pet hamster 36 years ago, and I named it Sunshine :)

I will be at the party tomorrow. Can we just take him/her/it home then?  Do we need to purchase any supplies ahead of time?

Thanks for letting us have this "privilege" ;)

Just kidding. Thank you. Ryder will be in heaven!"

Totally didn't see that one coming :)


I guess the blessing in disguise is that I am ever so lucky that Sunshine isn't a python or boa constrictor!  And the real blessing is Ryder is so happy to have a friend staying with us for the holidays.

I love this picture of Nicole - my super intelligent honor student who takes an incredibly heavy load of classes at school.  Somehow, in the midst of all of the intensity and seriousness, she manages to have fun.  Although admittedly her "fun" looks a bit dangerous.

I'm not quite sure what you're supposed to learn from a lab where you light Cheetos on fire underneath a Coca Cola can that seems to be hovering in mid air - but I'm sure that they learned A LOT!!!

As her mother, I am ever so grateful she wore her safety goggles!

I'm Hoping Goth Is Still In

BEFORE

So, a funny (?) story. I was coloring my hair this morning (I'm really a natural blonde :)  and I was using my phone as my timer. Well, the timer went off signaling "time to rinse," but when I turned the timer off I noticed that I had 7 emails. I figured they were all quick facebook emails, so I took a look. What I found was an email from a dear friend which I immediately opened it to see how she was doing. And then I read it. And started typing a reply. And 10 minutes passed where I had forgotten all about the colorant in my hair. And then I remembered. And I gasped. And I ran to the bathroom and rinsed. 

As I finish writing this blog, the towel is still wrapped around my head. I am afraid to look at how dark it is. But, ever the optimist, I have the thought, "Oh well, maybe I can wait longer between colorings this time."

Now if you didn't believe me about being a natural blonde…would a brunette have made that mistake?
